Follow Friday #20 / Book Blogger Hop #20

Talk about the book that most changed or influenced your life (was it a book that turned you from an average to avid reader, did it help you deal with a particularly difficult situation, does it bring you comfort every time you read it?).

I think for me Pushkin's Eugene Onegin was a timely find. I read it during a period when I totally worshipped this guy who didn't feel the same and it seemed like Tatyana and I were in the same boat. I even wrote a letter to the guy I liked, the way she does. It didn't work out, but eventually I went on to find love with someone the complete opposite of the guy I had once adored. I still like to go back to the book now and again as it is such a wonderful piece of writing.

This week's question from Crazy-for-Books is:

What is the one ARC you would love to get your hands on right now?

I am quite keen to read the new A. S. Byatt book, Ragnarok that will be released early September. I requested the ARC from NetGalley, but haven't heard if I was lucky enough to be approved for it yet.

  13. Hi, Nicki! I'm a recent new follower.

You know, I've only read "Crime and Punishment", by Dostoevsky, but I know that Russian literature boasts some pretty towering writers, and Pushkin is one of them, from what I've heard. I've done the letter-writing thing myself, in a way -- I once wrote a guy several poems, and read them to him, too...(GROAN...) What I wouldn't give to go back and change history! He smiled cynically and said they were "nice"...so I completely understand this type of behavior! It never works. A man has to be crazy about a woman first, I've come to realize. Anyway, I LOVE reading classic novels, so I have to add this one to my TBR pile, right along with all of the YA books! Lol.

I also like yor pick for the ARC. A.S. Byatt is another writer I've been meaning to read, and just haven't gotten around to it...I have the novel "Possession", for instance, which I've heard SO much about! I also have a book of essays, the title of which escapes me at the moment.

Two AWESOME picks!! GREAT!!! : )

Come on over and check out my FF & Blogger Hop posts!
