I approached this book not expecting too much, imagining it would be a standard PNR/fantasy that I would only find 'okay' and nothing special. But in the end, I found myself really enjoying it.
Mac was a fun character who reminded me a little of Sookie Stackhouse in the Charlaine Harris series and I was instantly drawn into her world. I loved the touch of humour in the piece (again reminiscent of Harris) and I found myself sucked into the story in no time.
The prose is easy going and the storyline was interesting and well-paced. The only thing about this story that annoyed me was the ending as it makes me wish I had the next book ready and waiting so I could continue reading and find out what would happen next.
This is a series I will definitely continue with and I think it will appeal to fans of Fae books and those who enjoy the writing style of Charlaine Harris.
Oooh, Nicki, I think that's a VERY apt comparison to Sookie, but it never occured to me before... they're both... hmm, 'damaged' for lack of a better word, but want to believe in rainbows and sunshine, and good in the world? They're both PERKY.
ReplyDeleteI just finished this one over the weekend and wound up REALLY enjoying it. I think I had low expectations, too. A friend I take as a good measure of whether I'll like a book wasn't impressed, so I was really pleasantly surprised. Fab review! ♥
