How have your reading habits changed in the past few years? Did you get interested in a new genre? Do you read more? Less? Why do you think your habits changed, if they did.

Well, mine definitely have: a couple of years ago, I used to read a lot more than I do now.

The main reason is my current workplace has a later finish time and is busier and more stressful than previous jobs. I therefore have less time in the evenings to read than I used to, especially when you add in time for social media, blogging and pursuing my other hobbies as well (which have also increased in number the last few years).

Further to all that, I have started doing MOOCs, too, adding more restraints on my time. Not to mention trying to fit in my own writing. But I still do my best to read at least 100 books a year. I'm a little behind schedule so far this year, but am hoping to catch up again soon.

Genre-wise, not much has changed. I still focus mainly on literary fiction and paranormal, but also read a little in most other genres, excepting chick lit and crime.

To keep my foreign languages up, I keep meaning to read more books in other languages. Lack of time is proving a factor there, since I read slower in other languages than in English, but I am still keeping that as a goal for 2014.

  1. You can read books in other languages? That's amazing! I mean, I can speak a couple of languages and read and write in them, but to actually read an actual book- that just seems impossible.

    1. Hi Alisa. Yes, I can, but it is slower than in English. I might only read 20-30 pages an hour in French or German compared to English where I read on average 75-100 pages an hour depending on the book. In Danish, Czech or Italian it's even slower as I have to look more up. I generally only attempt children and YA reads in those three.
