Weekend Blog Hops - 23 March 2018

It's the weekend once more. That means it's time for my book blogger hopping....

When meeting with friends, do your discussions usually turn to books?
Fairly often. Many of my friends are also avid readers. For the few who aren't, we usually talk about films and TV shows instead, so it's still storytelling. :)

Opening sentence:
There was something you wanted to tell me, wasn't there?

From page 56:
Or maybe you were afraid of your strange, cold, angry daughter, who doesn't weep for you, who insists that you killed yourself, without evidence, without reason.

My Current Read
Into the Water
Paula Hawkins

A single mother turns up dead at the bottom of the river that runs through town. Earlier in the summer, a vulnerable teenage girl met the same fate. They are not the first women lost to these dark waters, but their deaths disturb the river and its history, dredging up secrets long submerged.

Left behind is a lonely fifteen-year-old girl. Parentless and friendless, she now finds herself in the care of her mother’s sister, a fearful stranger who has been dragged back to the place she deliberately ran from—a place to which she vowed she’d never return.

With the same propulsive writing and acute understanding of human instincts that captivated millions of readers around the world in her explosive debut thriller,
The Girl on the Train, Paula Hawkins delivers an urgent, twisting, deeply satisfying read that hinges on the deceptiveness of emotion and memory, as well as the devastating ways that the past can reach a long arm into the present.

Beware a calm surface—you never know what lies beneath.

  4. I've had this book on my radar since it came out though I've yet to actually get around to it. I love the teasers - especially that 56! That's awesome about having bookish friends. Mine aren't so bookish!

  5. Intriguing teasers. I've heard of the author but never read her. I'm featuring Falling Star by Terri Osburn - a romance from my review stack - this week. Happy reading!

  7. I like the snippets! Paula Hawkins has to jump the bar she put up for herself with The Girl on the Train. I hope she does it. Enjoy!

    1. Thanks Ronnie. I've not read The Girl on the Train, so I am coming to her writing with no expectations.

  8. I hope you are enjoying Into the Water. I will probably read it at some point, but most of my friends who have read it either couldn't finish it or didn't like it. That isn't the most positive feedback one wants to hear when deciding to read a book! I hope you do like it though! Then maybe there is hope for me.

  14. Fun that your non-reading friends chat about films and TV.

I like that you compared it to storytelling.

    Thanks for sharing.

  16. You sure are lucky to have people around you to discuss books with! I do have an acquaintance at school who occasionally will mention a book she's read, but we don't really have book discussions. All of my bookish buddies are online!

Thanks for sharing! Also, thanks for visiting and commenting on my own BBH post!! <3 :)
