Weekend Blog Hops - 20 April 2018

It's the weekend once more. That means it's time for my book blogger hopping....

http://www.coffeeaddictedwriter.com/2017/01/book-blogger-hop-january-13th-19th.html
How do you organize your books for review? Does it work for you or have you had to change it?
I've been trying to decide how to interpret this question. If it's meant in terms of deciding what to read when, I generally follow two guidelines:
1) Is there a due date for the review or an expiry date on the ARC?
2) What am I in the mood to read?
I read a mix of review books and ones I buy myself or receive as gifts for birthday/Xmas etc. I give preference to author requests and NetGalley ARCs, but I slot the others in between as the mood takes me. I like to read a bit of fiction, then some non-fiction, then back to fiction. Other than that, I don't have much to organise per se as I write the reviews straightaway after reading, scheduling them in advance if necessary. My TBR pile generally hovers in the region of 20-30 books, so it's never wildly out of control.

Opening sentence:
"Thora!"
I turn to see Crescentia barreling toward me down the gilded palace hallway, pink silk skirts lifted as she runs and a broad grin spread across her lovely face.

From page 56:
It's the truth, I know it is, but just saying it is enough for me to remember the Theyn's biting into my skin, the Kaiser's cruel eyes on me, reveling in my pain every time he so much as suspected my loyalty to him wasn't bound in iron.

My Current Read
Ash Princess
Laura Sebastian

Theodosia was six when her country was invaded and her mother, the Fire Queen, was murdered. On that day, the Kaiser took Theodosia's land and her name. Theo was crowned Ash Princess - a title of shame to bear in her new life as a prisoner.

For ten years Theo has been a captive in her own palace. She's endured the relentless abuse and ridicule of the Kaiser and his court. She is powerless, surviving in her new world only by burying the girl she was deep inside.

Then, one night, the Kaiser forces her to do the unthinkable. With blood on her hands and all hope of reclaiming her throne lost, she realizes that surviving is no longer enough. But she does have a weapon: her mind is sharper than any sword.

And power isn't always won on the battlefield.

  6. The BB is so happy compared to the dark 56! And my reviews choices change all the time. It depends on when I received them, when they're due, all sorts of reasons. I'd love for you and your readers to check out THE UNINVITED CORPSE . . . https://www.facebook.com/elleryadamswritesmysteries/

  7. I enjoyed Ash Princess. I read my review books in order of publication date. I don't usually accept review requests from authors and try to confine myself to NetGalley and Edelweiss which helps keep me organized. This week I have a thriller - What You Want to See by Kristen Lepionka. Happy reading!

    1. Thanks Kathy. I am liking it well enough so far, though I'm praying it's not going to hit a cliched love triangle soon.

  11. It's amazing that your TBR isn't out of control. I find that when I read others' blogs, I tend to add more books to my TBR and it becomes a bit nuts. Happy reading!

  12. I am completely the same when it comes to my own way of organising books! With requested reviews, I try to make sure that I have them all plotted out on a spreadsheet so that I can see if they have deadlines and, if so, when the deadline is. This lets me make sure that I'm able to read and review the book in time, but then I'm also able to read whatever I want when I'm not reading requested books. Generally, I like being able to have the flexibility of choosing what I want to read because I also like to switch between fiction and non-fiction and different genres.
