Weekend Blog Hops - 8 February 2019

It's the weekend once more. That means it's time for my book-blogger hopping.

Do you have celebrations for your blog's anniversary, such as a giveaway?
I think I did something on the first anniversary, from memory, but, no, I don't really make a fuss about it. To be honest, I simply don't have the spare money to put up prizes for giveaways at present.

Opening sentence:
I was on my way home from the hunt.

From page 56:
Yes, strutting sandpiper, your footprints in the sandy beach are your handwriting; thus you write your ephemeral tales and reports of what you have seen on your short-winged travels.

My Current Read
From the Mouth of the Whale
Sjón

The year is 1635. Iceland is a world darkened by superstition, poverty and cruelty. Men of science marvel over a unicorn’s horn, poor folk worship the Virgin in secret and both books and men are burnt. Jónas Pálmason, a poet and self-taught healer, has been condemned to exile for heretical conduct, having fallen foul of the local magistrate. Banished to a barren island, Jónas recalls his exorcism of a walking corpse on the remote Snjafjoll coast, the frenzied massacre of innocent Basque whalers at the hands of local villagers, and the deaths of three of his children.

From the Mouth of the Whale is a magical evocation of an enlightened mind and a vanished age.

  1. Not my usual read, but I am now curious. Thanks for sharing, and here's mine: “THE MAKING OF US”

  2. Love the bit about the sandpiper footprints as "handwriting," but the premise is really confusing.

I've never celebrate blog anniversaries, either. Maybe because I have so many...

  4. How interesting! This is a new one for me, but the synopsis caught my attention. I hope you are enjoying it.

I have not been too consistent with even mentioning my blog anniversary--usually it just slips by me. I have held giveaways before, although only two for my actual blog anniversary. It was years ago. One had been hosted by a publisher and so no cost to me. Still, it was a bit of work to put together. I hope you have a great weekend!

  9. With respect to celebrating blog anniversaries, I, too, have not made a 'fuss'. I know the cost of prizes is a hassle and often a limiting factor, but maybe you could put your own spin on a giveaway. For example, if a fellow blogger wins, their prize could be a guest blogger spot. If a non-blogger wins, their prize could be a spotlight/interview on your blog. Yes, I pulled these out of the air!

    1. Thanks for the comment and suggestions. Good ideas. I will keep them in mind. I think I will definitely do something for 10 years when that comes around in the not too distant future.
