Weekend Blog Hops - 10 January 2020

Hi all! It's time for those weekend blog hops once again!

Do you have a reading challenge for 2020?

I have set a goal on Goodreads, as usual. This year I made it 180, but I should easily smash that since I read 360 in 2019.

I am also running my own challenge again for 2020, which anyone is welcome to join. It is a matter of reading 25 books over a series of fun and diverse categories, and you can find all the details HERE.

Opening sentence:
Eight years of poison and murder and shit.

From page 56:
She'd killed so many men, giving in to the rage that had sustained her through all the years and all the miles and all the sleepless nights.

My Current Read
Darkdawn (Nevernight #3)
Jay Kristoff

The greatest games in Godsgrave's history have ended with the most audacious murders in the history of the Itreyan Republic.

Mia Corvere, gladiatii, escaped slave and infamous assassin, is on the run. Pursued by Blades of the Red Church and soldiers of the Luminatii legion, she may never escape the City of Bridges and Bones alive. Her mentor Mercurio is now in the clutches of her enemies. Her own family wishes her dead. And her nemesis, Consul Julius Scaeva, stands but a breath from total dominance over the Republic.

But beneath the city, a dark secret awaits. Together with her lover Ashlinn, brother Jonnen and a mysterious benefactor returned from beyond the veil of death, she must undertake a perilous journey across the Republic, seeking the final answer to the riddle of her life. Truedark approaches. Night is falling on the Republic for perhaps the final time.

Can Mia survive in a world where even daylight must die?

  2. I love that opening sentence. I am probably not supposed to laugh, but I did. I need to try Jay Kristoff one of these days.

Good luck with your challenges (as host and participant). Your challenge sounds like fun! I didn't include the Goodreads challenge, but I did set a goal for that one too.

I hope you have a great weekend!

    1. Haha. Luckily I am a fast reader, and about 100 of those were manga volumes, so they are pretty quick reading in and of themselves.

    1. Yes, it's been good. And it's a bit darker and different from a lot of YA fantasy.
