Weekend Blog Hops - 6 March 2020

Hi all! It's time for those weekend blog hops once again!

When did you first know you’re truly a bookworm? Did you lose sleep over a novel?
Ever since I was a kid; I've always loved stories and reading. Books have been one of the constants in my life.
I've absolutely lost sleep over a novel! Sometimes a story stays with you and you end up deep in thought about it and can't get to sleep. It happens to me with films and TV shows too at times.

Large houses are difficult to keep an eye on, to control, my mother used to tell me, looking fraught and harried, before bustling out of the room to find the housekeeper or the butler or the tweeny maid to demand a full reckoning of what was happening in the far corners of the house.

From page 56:
The beast was larger than a hound, too large for any mammal without hooves native to this island, and sometimes it was not a beast at all, but a woman with the claws of an animal and crazed eyes smeared with soot, who crawled out of a mirror dressed in white and trailed pale petals in her wake.
My Current Read
The Animals at Lockwood Manor
Jane Healey

Some secrets are unspoken. Others are unspeakable . . .

August 1939.

Thirty-year-old Hetty Cartwright is tasked with the evacuation and safekeeping of the natural history museum’s collection of mammals. Once she and her exhibits arrive at Lockwood Manor, however, where they are to stay for the duration of the war, Hetty soon realizes that she’s taken on more than she’d bargained for.

Protecting her charges from the irascible Lord Lockwood and resentful servants is work enough, but when some of the animals go missing, and worse, Hetty begins to suspect someone – or something – is stalking her through the darkened corridors of the house.

As the disasters mount, Hetty finds herself falling under the spell of Lucy, Lord Lockwood’s beautiful but clearly haunted daughter. But why is Lucy so traumatized? Does she know something she’s not telling? And is there any truth to local rumours of ghosts and curses?

  4. I had to giggle a little at the opening, with the woman complaining about large houses being difficult, yet having all that help. xD Wish I had that problem. Seems like a good problem to have lol. Oooh, that 56 snippet sounds fabulous, though, and the blurb sounds amazing! I hope you enjoy this.
