When Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder. Much less a murder commited by three teenagers covered with odd markings. This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons--and keeping the odd werewolves and vampires in line. It's also her first meeting with gorgeous, golden-haired Jace. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in an ordinary mundane like Clary? And how did she suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know... (Goodreads Synopsis)

City of Bones is a book I expected to like more than I did. Not that I disliked it, far from it, but I just wanted more from it. I think the issue is that I read the Infernal Devices series first and loved those and the Victorian steampunk world setting. The modern setting of Mortal Devices just doesn't thrill me as much.

That said, it was still an action-packed story with memorable and well-developed characters and I look forward to seeing the film soon. Will I read the rest of the series? Probably, but not in a mad rush. If you are looking for a fun YA twist on angels, vampires and werewolves, I can recommend this series.
