Sketching: Adam Driver as Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

A sketch of Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, taken from a promo image for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
I saw the film the last week and now have a major Kylo Ren obsession on my hands! The wait for the DVD release seems interminable....

Drawn over 6.5 hours using pencils 8B, 7B, 4B, 3B, and 2H and a hard charcoal pencil.

This is my second attempt at mixing charcoal with graphite. I love the deep contrast it provides; however, I did encounter issues. My charcoal pencils are a very cheap set I bought just to try it out. They are big and chunky, and I found that I'd gone in too heavy on the side of his head/hair. The charcoal left a waxy finish that made it impossible to get enough subtle detail into the hair. I will continue using charcoal in future drawings, but I do intend to invest in a better set of less chunky pencils that will enable me to get finer detail in. Other than that, I was pretty pleased with how this drawing turned out, especially considering it is my first after a couple of months' break.
