Guillermo del Toro (Director)
Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro reinvents the classic story of a wooden puppet brought to life in this stunning stop-motion musical tale. (Synopsis)
On the whole Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio was enjoyable. The stop-motion animation looks stunning and must have been such a painstaking process. Meanwhile, it was interesting to see a darker version of that tale that returns more to the original story when compared to the Disney version. Where perhaps it fell down a little was in the songs. There were a handful scattered through the piece, but none were super memorable. As such, they might have been better to have gone song-less, to avoid negative comparison with the much catchier Disney tunes. Nonetheless, it was a fun watch and a feat of animation, so I am giving it four stars.
