Author Interview3: RJ Scott

Today I welcome RJ Scott to the blog to answer a few questions for Author Interview³.

RJ Scott Author Interview³

1) Tell us 3 fun facts about your writing history
Fun facts… gah… I started writing in fan fiction – J2 (Jared/Jensen RPF, Supernatural). Not sure that is fun.
My husband created the shower sex scene in Guarding Morgan (Sanctuary 1) and I wrote the detail, after all, a guy knows what a guy KNOWS… ;)
I’m just about to see Nora Roberts at an event in Ireland – she is the reason I am a writer of romance – she is my idol… (poor woman, I’ll probably jump her LOL)

2) Describe your writing style in 3 words
Thoughtful. Passionate. Pantser.

3) Name 3 of your literary influences

Nora Roberts, and others too many to mention

4) Share your 3 favourite books
In genre – Marie Sexton, Eli Easton, NR Walker
Outside genre – Nora Roberts, Sharon Penman, Judith McNaught

5) What are your 3 essential writing tools?
My Mac, my iPad with notes and diary, ‘A nice cup of tea’

6) Where are your 3 favourite places to write?
I write in my office, with views out over the parkland in front of my house. I love writing here, and with the fact I have a bad back, it is the ONLY place I can write. Having said that, if you could move my office then I would love a view of the ocean, or the mountains.

7) Name 3 items on your writing wish list
I’m really happy writing contemporary MM. I don’t aspire to write in other genres, except maybe MM historical, one day… maybe. I won’t go with publishers any more, and as of June 2019 I am 100% independently published with over 140 titles in my library.

8) What are your top 3 tips for aspiring writers?
Read, always read. Write, just keep writing, and love what you write. Don’t judge yourself against other writers. Don’t engage with reviews, they aren’t for you. Lastly, always know where your money with publishers is.

9) Tell us 3 of your writing plans for the year ahead
I have the remainder of the new Single Dads series to complete, and a whole big project for Christmas 2019. I also have WIPs in hockey, and one ghost/historical with Elin Gregory for Halloween. Super busy as usual.

10) Tell us about your latest release
My latest release is something very new for me, and also not. Let me explain. This is a romantic suspense with (an) over-arching murder(s) spread over three books. Each book is a complete romance but I found I was blocked when it came to creating the crime. But, when I sat down to think about the main suspense part, I realized that actually, in a lot of my books I have a murder, or a mystery, and it was actually something I did without thinking. So, then I stopped panicking and actually wrote the small-town romance, with good guys, bad guys, and of course romance! You can read more about the book HERE.

Sawyer Wiseman left town for Chicago, chasing the excitement and potential of being a big city cop, rising the ranks, and making his mark. A case gone horribly wrong draws him back to Lancaster Falls. Working for the tiny police department in the town he’d been running from, digging into cold cases and police corruption, he spends his day's healing, and his nights hoping the nightmares of his last case leave him alone.
