Interview - Deborah Riley-Magnus

Today I welcome author and coach Deborah Riley-Magnus to the blog. The second book of Deborah's Twice-Baked Vampire series is releasing and she is here to tell us a little more about it. Let's see what she had to say....

1) Tell us a little more about you and your writing

Basically, I’m a writer like just about any other writer, but if I can’t find the twist that makes people say “huh?” I get bored very quickly. As a fiction writer, I want it in my pages, and as an Author Success Coach, I want to see it on the author’s face. There’s magic in every part of life, we just need to look for it. Whether it’s outside our front door, inside our head or part of a plan for success, creative and unique solutions are everywhere! I love to challenge myself in big ways. When I decided to write The Twice-Baked Vampire series I asked myself the simplest question I could think of. What really happens to a vampire after he finally dies? We all know what previous authors have told us and what contemporary authors and writers subscribe to … I thought something different. I thought, OMG! What if that poor vampire, Gabriel Strickland, simply wakes up in West Hollywood and has to live out purgatory in a secret warehouse filled with other really dead supernaturals? What if he has to do everything he can to earn redemption and his own ticket through the Pearly Gates? The concept lent itself to a character readers could sympathize with, a unique world view no one’s ever written before. It seemed like a LOT of fun to write. That’s me and my writing.

Excerpt - Heaven 2.0 by Scott Haworth

Today I welcome author Scott Haworth to the blog. Scott is here to share any excerpt from his latest release, Heaven 2.0, so without further ado....

Having been born in the 28th century, Mike Kepler never believed in the existence of Heaven or Hell. The myths of the old faiths had been abandoned and replaced with the teachings of The Church many centuries earlier. The young physicist is shocked to learn that there is an afterlife when he is recruited by the Taipei Corporation. It was created by a team of scientists rather than God.

Mike’s job is to travel to the past and save people at the time of their deaths using advanced medical technology. The individuals are then brought back to the 28th century, judged on the sins they committed and sentenced to an eternity in the artificial Heaven or Hell. Mike quickly learns that the project is far less noble than it appears. He discovers that many of the people sentenced to eternal torment in Hell do not deserve their fate.

John Heldt - Guest Post

Today I welcome John Heldt, author of The Mine to the blog. Over to you, John....

Thank you, Nicki, for allowing me to guest post on your blog. I appreciate the opportunity to introduce my book to a new audience!

Like most time travel stories, The Mine deals with constants and variables. The constants are usually the protagonists, who remain (at least physically) unchanged as they travel from the present to the past or the present to the future. The variables are the times, the places, and the people they meet. More often than not, these times, places, and people are strangers to them. In Michael Crichton's Timeline, for example, American archaeology students travel from modern-day New Mexico to 14th-century France. Though the students have extensively studied the Middle Ages, they know them only from their research. They do not find castles in ruins or relatives they have known. They find a strange new world.

UnGuarded by Ashley Robertson - Cover Reveal

Today I am hosting a cover reveal for Ashley Robertson's upcoming release UnGuarded. Ashley's last book, Crimson Groves, was a great read and I look forward to reviewing UnGuarded in a few week's time.

To learn more about Ashley and her writing, you can visit her blog, but without further ado, here is a little more about UnGuarded.

Guardian angel Selene was so close to becoming an archangel—the supreme of all beings—until she fell in love with Cole, a forbidden dark one. Once she discovers her vampire lover has been kidnapped and the only way to save him is by abandoning her number one priority—Caitlyn, her human charge—there really is only one answer in Selene’s mind, even though leaving Caitlyn unguarded will most likely cause Selene to fall from grace.

But her choice to save Cole doesn’t come without a price…and now Selene is racing against time to not only save her dark lover, but find a way to keep Caitlyn alive as well.

With the help of a new vampire ally, Luke, Selene will push her diminishing angel abilities to the point where her very existence lies in the balance. Now threatened with the chance of becoming a fallen angel or even dying, Selene can only pray she’ll have enough time—and good grace—to save the ones she loves.

Follow Friday # 45 / Book Blogger Hop # 29

Q: You are a matchmaker — your goal, hook up two characters from two of your favorite books. Who would it be? How do you think it would go?

I'd have Eponine from Les Miserables meet enigmatic vampire Saint Germain. He'd soon make her forget all about soppy old Marius and she could then survive stray bullets, travel the world and be less wretched.

What upcoming releases are you most looking forward to?

There are some great books still due out this year, but I think the two I am most excited about are: Shadow of the Night by Deborah Harkness (out in July) and the final part of the Vampire Empire trilogy (out in September).
